NFL First Half Example: Green Bay Packers -3.5 (Packers Must Be Winning By More Than 3.5 Points At Half) vs. Chicago Bears +3.5 (Bears Can’t be Losing By More Than 3.5 Points At Half)

The Green Bay Packers are playing the Chicago Bears in Chicago at Soldier Field, and the NFL 1H point spread is set at 3.5 with the Packers favored. The Bears (+3.5) can lose the 1st half by up to 3 points and still cover. The Packers (-3.5) must be winning the game by at least 4 points to cover the 1H spread. So, let’s say the Bears with their new starter Justin Fields are leading Aaron Rodgers and the Packers 24 to 21 at half. In this scenario, the Bears (+3.5) actually are leading 27.5 to 17.5 against the Packers (-3.5). That’s because if you are going by the 1H point spread, you add 3.5 to the halftime score for the Bears, and take away 3.5 points for the Packers. Whoever came out on top after that calculation, was the winner of the bet. In this case, all Bears backers win and everyone who bet the Packers takes the loss.
